Digital Components : XM Radio : Single and 2 Wire Antenna Differences Print send FAQs by e-mailask a questionwrite comment
Question:I have seen many XM radio systems with 2 wire antennas and some only have 1 wire. What is the difference between the 2?

Answer:Many of the older XM Radio systems and tuners had 2 wire antenna systems. (Yellow/Green) One wire was for reception of satellite based transmissions and the other was for reception of ground-based (terrestrial) transmissions.

Newer XM receivers ave a single antenna wire (purple)
, which integrates both the satellite and terrestrial signals into one wire.

The two technologies are not compatible with one another, so if you have a 2 wire antenna input, you will need to purchase a 2 wire antenna. The new generation of slim antennas now use a 1 wire configuration.

In order to give the website a better focus, we are phasing out the less popular areas of the site, including the high definition and digital video recorder areas and forums. This will leave the site focused on digital satellite television and satellite radio.
